"The world is set up to tell
you what you can't do, who you can't be, and what you can't look like.
Your job on this planet is to tell them who you are, why you're here, and
what you're capable of doing." According to Roxanne Edwards, she is
on this planet to show off her perfect body, compete with it and win.
Roxanne and Raymond from "Hard Bodies" are similar because they
both have the idea of working out to achieve the perfect body. Although
their definitions of perfect are different they both are working towards the same goal. In order to achieve this goal, it
takes a lot of hard work and dedication.
The work that Roxanne and bodybuilders in general put into having the perfect body is very admirable. It is so time
consuming and take over every aspect of their lives.
One thing that I found
very interesting was when Roxanne was asked if she had to go on an extreme diet
along with her intense work out sessions.
She said that she could go eat at McDonald’s up until the day of her show
because she had such a fast metabolism.
I feel that since she still does eat McDonald’s she seems and can
eat like somewhat of a real, normal person.
On the other hand, since she can eat such fatty foods whenever she wants
and still only has 4% body fat shows that she isn’t like a normal person. No one could eat that poorly and have that
little body fat percentage.
“Peeled is when you look
at me and you can see right through me.
You can look at stuff on me and see the fibers in the muscle moving
underneath my skin.” First, I find this
quite confusing on how you can see fibers moving in someone's body. Second, I don’t think that if this is
possible that it is healthy. Third, this
is one way I definitely don’t relate to Roxanne. I would never want to get so muscular that
you could see through my body. I do
relate to her in a way that the reason she started working out was to look good
naked. Who doesn’t want to look good
naked? “Looking good,” is such a broad
topic to people because I may like one look where someone else would think the
total opposite. Just like how most
people may think femininity is one thing, Roxanne would define it as something
else. To me, femininity isn’t all about
breasts, but they definitely have a part in it.
The classic hourglass figure and soft features is what I think it means
to look feminine. I also think there is
a difference in being feminine and girly or feminine and athletic.
I would say that girly is more of a quaint look, maybe even soft spoken. But, I do think a girl can have more of an
athletic type of body and still be feminine.
Femininity isn’t just how someone looks, but also by the way they act.
“You have those who
absolutely adore what I do and like who I am and like what I embody. Then you have the other side of the public,
which can’t wrap their thoughts around it at all.” Roxanne loves what she does and does it because it makes her happy. Which side do you stand on?
